Training Requirements

Below are the Minimum Required Standards and Suggested Optional Training for New Jersey State First Aid Council Member Squads

DRIVER
  • Valid driver's License

  • Acceptable driving record (per squad insurance co.)

  • National Safety Council's coaching - The Emergency Vehicle Operator (C.E.V.O.)

  • DOT Ambulance Operations / ambulance and equipment familiarization

  • ARC Responding to Emergencies
    or
    ARC Standard First Aid
  • ARC CPR/BLS PRO or AHA level C

AMBULANCE ATTENDANT
Minimum Entry Level
  • ARC responding to emergencies

  • ARC Community CPR or AHA AED-CPR-First Aid

To be completed in one year: 

  • ARC Emergency Response-First Responder
    or
    AAOS First Responder
    or
    Winter Emergency Care (National Ski Patrol)

  • ARC or AHA CPR - BLS Healthcare Provider

  • DOT Ambulance Operations/ambulance and equipment familiarization

  • NSC C.E.V.O.

  • Valid driver's license 

  • Acceptable driving record (per squad insurance co.)

E.M.T.
  • N.J.D.O.H. or National Registry E.M.T. Certification

  • ARC or AHA CPR - BLS Healthcare Provider

  • DOT Ambulance operations, ambulance and equipment familiarization

  • NSC C.E.V.O.

  • Valid driver's license 

  • Acceptable driving record (per squad insurance co.)

  • Leadership management training

General requirements for all the above classifications: Member Squads are required to meet all the requirements as established under Ferderal/State/County/Municipal laws applicable to the pre-hospital care environment.

Crew Configuration: It is strongly advised that the minimum ambulance crew should be staffed by two EMT's (one shall meet the driver requirements). Ambulance Attendants shall operate under the supervision of an EMT.

The minimum required standards and suggested optional training for the category of driver and ambulance attendant shall be used if a squad so desires to have these catagories as part of their operational procedures.
